Looking for a way to take a social distance-friendly vaca with the family? Suffolk County has several county parks that offer camping (tent and trailer). The parks are also taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of campers as well as staff. Both the precautions and a list of county campsites are listed below- along with the link to book your trip!!

Precautions:

Suffolk County Parks is committed to ensuring that visitors and staff continues to have a safe and memorable outdoor experience at our County parks. They are following the Governor, County Executive and public health officials’ guidance as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. While campgrounds are open there will be additional precautions taken to ensure everyone can properly practice social distancing while still protecting employees and campers alike. Precautions include but are not limited to:

  • No walk-up reservations.
  • Reservations made after June 15 will follow the regular cancellation policy.
  • Single car parking at campsites. Two vehicle parking permits will be provided. Second vehicle will be permitted to park in main parking lot with permit. (Exception Outer Beach Campgrounds).
  • Check-in will be conducted through the check-in cabin window.
  • Camping units must be self- contained through June 30th. No tent camping during this time. (Per Suffolk County Health Department self-contained units are defined as having a built-in flushable toilet with a built-in holding tank with a minimum capacity of 5 gallons.)
  • Tent Camping is available for reservations with a begin date July 1 forward.
  • Campsite occupancy strictly enforced to a single household residing at same address.
  • No visitors permitted at campsite.
  • Campground bathrooms and showers are closed through June 30.
  • Outdoor public gathering areas may be closed. (ex. picnic areas and pavilions)
  • Playgrounds are closed.
  • Campers must wear a face covering and gloves when utilizing the dump station.
  • Campers must practice social distancing when not at campsite and wear face covering when unable to social distance.

 

Please note the current COVID-19 situation is very fluid. As the situation changes our policies and availability of park activities may change. We are assessing every policy daily. We greatly appreciate your patience and hope you know we are doing our best to navigate this difficult situation.

Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Southaven, Indian Island, Sears Bellows and Cedar Point campgrounds offer trailer & tent sites.

Smith PointCupsogueShinnecock EastMontauk Parks are known as Flagship Parks.  These are the larger, more popular parks with the most amenities such as beach front views, hiking trails, swimming and much more.  Blydenburgh , Cathedral PinesIndian IslandSears BellowsSouthaven and West Hills are also great parks and offer camping, hiking and scenic woodland views. The Suffolk County Parks camping season generally runs from April through Veterans Day in November, although a few parks entertain visitors year round. Each campground is unique and offers a variety of outdoor activities.
